The idea and the owners.
The owners of Hummingbird Resort have known each other for many years. Kwame is in the years…. came to the Netherlands from Ghana to work. He ended up in Frans' hydraulic company, where Kwame worked for many years. During these years a close friendship developed between the two men.
During an unforgettable trip through Ghana, Kwame had the opportunity to show Frans his native country. This adventure led them to the breathtaking crater lake Bosumtwi, the place where Kwame was born and raised.
The magical place and the concept.
Inspired by the beauty of the landscape and the warmth of the local community, the idea was born to create something that would not only attract tourists, but also benefit locals. With peace and relaxation in mind, the concept of Hummingbird Resort was born: charming holiday homes that fit perfectly into the serene environment.
This project was not a purely commercial endeavor; its aim was to support the residents of the area with work and education.
An important part of the vision is the establishment of a practical school for local teenagers, where they can receive training in the catering industry. From hospitality and service to cooking and hygiene, these courses offer young people the opportunity to develop their skills and create future opportunities, everywhere in Ghana.
Kwame and Frans got to work purchasing land directly on the lake. Local residents were called in to prepare the site, which not only helped move the project forward, but also helped local work.
Welcome to Lodge Hummingbird.
Despite the challenges posed by the corona pandemic, three lodges have now been completed. Frans and Kwame are very proud of this, especially because it was achieved without external subsidies. This success is due to their efforts and to the tireless support of friends and acquaintances who contributed materials and supplies.
Hummingbird Resort is now ready to welcome guests to this unique setting, and the mission to become self-sufficient is in full swing. Each overnight stay contributes to the further development of the school and the construction of another three lodges.
